EPUB is usually the most flexible book format for combined reading and listening. Its text can reflow for the screen, chapters are structured, and speech can follow the document text instead of treating each page as a fixed image.
Why EPUB fits read-aloud workflows
Unlike a fixed-layout PDF, a standard EPUB separates content from page dimensions. Text can adapt to the display, and the table of contents can expose chapter boundaries. That makes it easier to change type size, move through a book and start speech from a meaningful position.
EPUB files still vary. Some use fixed layouts, embedded media, unusual markup or publisher restrictions. A clean reflowable EPUB gives the most predictable reading order and highlighting behavior.

Keep the current sentence visible

Move by chapter
Use the EPUB table of contents to reach a chapter before starting playback. For long books, chapter structure is more useful than navigating by an arbitrary audio timestamp.

Files and reading rights
Import EPUB files you are authorized to use. Digital rights management can prevent third-party apps from opening a book even when the file extension is EPUB. If a title came from a protected bookstore library, availability depends on that store's export and licensing rules.
