How to read an EPUB aloud on iPhone

Import the book, move to a chapter and press play. Aurader keeps the spoken sentence in view while you listen.

Aurader reading view on iPhone

Aurader can read a compatible, unprotected EPUB aloud on iPhone or iPad. Reflowable text and chapter structure make EPUB especially suitable for switching between visual reading and speech.

Check the EPUB first

Use a file you are authorized to open. Some bookstore downloads include digital rights management that restricts the book to the store's own reader. A standard DRM-free EPUB should import directly.

Reflowable EPUBs are the most predictable. Fixed-layout books, comics and heavily interactive titles may not expose text in a continuous reading order.

Five steps to read the book aloud

  1. Import the EPUB. Add the file to the Aurader Bookshelf from Files or an iOS share action.
  2. Open a chapter. Use the table of contents or your saved reading position to decide where speech should begin.
  3. Select a voice. Choose an Apple system voice, a supported on-device English neural voice, or a cloud or custom provider.
  4. Press play. Listen while Aurader highlights the current sentence and keeps playback controls available.
  5. Tune the session. Adjust speed, pitch and pronunciation. Add optional background sound or a sleep timer if useful.

Switch between eyes and ears

Synchronized highlighting is useful when a passage needs closer attention. Pause speech, inspect the visible sentence, then continue from the same point. You do not need to locate a matching position in a separate audiobook timeline.

This also helps when a chapter includes names, quotations or unfamiliar words. Visual context remains available even when listening is the main mode.

Set up bedtime listening

  • Choose a comfortable pace before you dim the screen.
  • Keep background audio below the narration level.
  • Set a sleep timer so playback does not run through later chapters.
  • Use a local or system voice if the device may lose its connection.

Prepare for offline listening

Import the book and make sure any required voice or neural model is available before travel. System and supported local voices can work without a network. Cloud and custom provider voices cannot synthesize new speech offline.
